The incidence of blindness is highest in the eastern region of the country(RAAB Survey). Blindness is more prevalent among the economically underprivileged Population of the society. Trained human resource and infrastructural facilities for eye care is very scanty in the eastern region. The per capita income of the inhabitants of the eastern region is below the national average. Hence, huge number of patients with ocular diseases continue to suffer either Due to non-availability of appropriate treatment or due to economic reason. This has also resulted in an exodus of patient to different states for the treatment of their ocular diseases treatment.
It was, therefore, the realization of Honorable sir Ramlal Golchha of Golchha Organization, Biratnagar to establish a modern eye hospital with all facilities to serve the people of the eastern region. With this aim and objective, a charitable trust for establishing an eye hospital in Biratnagar was formed with the help of Ramlal Dhapi Devi Charity Trust and its trustees towards the fulfillment of their Holy desire that saw the establishment of Ramlal Netra Chikitshalaya in Biratnagar. It was the kind gesture of a philanthropic businessman sir Ramlal Golchha to donate his trust land for establishment of this hospital. Finally, above all efforts of Sir Ramlal Golchha has led to the establishment of Ramlal Golchha Netra Chikitshalaya on January 17, 1983, and named with the name of great philanthropist sir Ramlal Golchha and inaugurated by our immediate Queen Aishwarya Rajya Laxmi on 17 January 1983. Later, the hospital name is modified to Ramlal Golchha Eye Hospital Foundation after 30 years of service.
